PACHANGA
Pachanga is a Spanish word for a fun celebration. With this program students can learn about Latin culture through dance, music, and speech. The course is bilingual in which Spanish words and phrases will be introduced during the classes. Students will be having so much fun they won’t even notice that they are learning dance, culture, and getting fit all at the same time. In each session the students will be exposed to a dance, music, and other cultural aspects of Latin countries from the Caribbean, Central America, or South America. Dancing is an exciting way to improve coordination while having a great time.
The course is taught by Cathya, who is a Latin dance instructor and has taught in the Fayette County Public Schools on the elementary school and middle school levels. In addition she has college classes at both the University of Kentucky and Centre College. While she is a United States citizen, she is a native of South America from the country of Peru and brings with her the richness of her cultural heritage, as well as, other Latin countries that she has studied. She is also a roster artist for the Kentucky Arts Council and at present she is conducting classes in the extended school programs incorporating the Kentucky Core Content for Arts and Humanities, as well as, teaching Latin Ballroom to both children and adults at the Central Kentucky YMCA.
