Latin Ballroom Slow Rumba and Fun Merengue Adolescence is a very difficult time for our children. They are learning many difficult concepts about themselves and how to interact with others. Latin ballroom dancing can be a wonderful way to teach them how to appropriately interact with each other in a social setting while getting exercise, learning about other cultures and having fun. The dances of merengue and rumba were selected as an introduction to Latin ballroom because they have contrasting styles. Merengue is an easy to learn, fast paced dance originating from the Dominican Republic. It is fun, highly energetic with a lot of aerobic exercise and often performed at Latin dances especially on cruise ships. Rumba is a slower dance which may have originated in Cuba and is a little more challenging with more complex cooperation between the dancers. The children will learn in the process of this course to use good manners in asking each other to dance, appropriate ways hold your partner, cooperation and communication, building self esteem, good posture and coordination, exercise and also having a lot of fun. In the process they will be exposed to the wonderful contribution of dance from the Latin culture under the guidance of an instructor with high energy and experience with working with adolescents.
